A Montserrat full day tour from Barcelona and the pretty seaside town of Sitges

Montserrat is our most famous mountain with spectacular rock formations as well as the spiritual center of Catalonia.

Located just 40 miles away from Barcelona, we will drive up 2400 feet high where the car will leave us to contemplate the stunning rock formations that erosion has caused along the millions of years, a breath-taking landscape…Do not forget your camera !

The fascinating history of Montserrat goes back to the ancient 9^th century when a group of shepherds found a hidden wooden statue of the Virgin Mary in one of the many caves hollowed out in these rocks. Since the 11^th century a community of Benedictine monks has taken care of this holy place in their monastery.

We will guide you into the Basilica where our famous “black virgin” statue known as “la Moreneta” , patroness of Catalans is kept.

In the afternoon we will drive to Sitges , 72 km/45 miles from Montserrat.

Sitges has been described as the Saint-Tropez of Spain thanks to its glitzy beach crowd and lively nightlife.

Former typical Mediterranean fishermen´s village, Sitges has plenty to offer to visitors nowadays.

A wide pedestrianized boulevard stretching along the waterfront, the Passeig Maritim is one of the most scenic walks to be enjoyed in Sitges. The walkway is lined with cafés, restaurants and ice cream shops, so there are plenty of opportunities for refreshment along the way.

In Sitges we will have time either for a pleasant long lunch in one of the many restaurants by the sea or a quick coffee and a sandwich in order to have time to visit the Cau Ferrat museum.

The Cau Ferrat building was once the home of Catalan artist Santiago Rusiñol, one of the leading figures of the Catalan Modernist movement. Upon his death, the artist bequeathed the house and its contents – including drawings, paintings, ceramics and more – to the town of Sitges on condition that it would be opened to the public as a museum (tickets not included).
