Full day Empordà wine route and Costa Brava tour from Barcelona
A journey through the land of ancient vines and the beauty of the blue Mediterranean sea
Empordà is a landscape of contrasts, situated in the far north east of Catalonia. The Pyrenees mountains, to the north, and the Mediterranean Sea, to the south, form a rainbow of colours with the touch of the famous northerly Tramontana wind
In the 6th Century B.C the Greek brought the vines to this land and soon started trading with the wine they produced here, that soon was appreciated by the most delicate palates.
El Empordà has a great variety of wines. From the high quality, full-bodied, well-structured reds of red grenache, carignan or cabernet sauvignon to the fresh and flavoursome white wines elaborated with local grapes like white grenache, macabeu or muscat. Rosé wines are also produced with a well-defined cherry colour, great personality and a delicate aroma.
Tour description:
Today we will visit two family run wine states in the prestigious Empordà wine region, the perfect place to disconnect your mind from hassle and stress.
Our day begins in the morning when we pick you up from your hotel or the agreed pick up point. Our chauffeur will then drive us north from Barcelona until the village of Cantallops, very close to France, 161km / 100 miles away.
In the first winery our friends Silvia and Jaume will be waiting for us with a delicious breakfast-brunch and a wine tasting. Following the brunch we will go for a walk through their vineyards, enjoying their colours, landscape and silence.
We will head then for the second winery located just 15 minutes ride away, in Mollet de Peralada.
The next winery is run as well by a young couple of enthusiast wine makers, Marta and Josep, who lead their organic wines elaboration in a beautiful site. They will explain us their secrets about their personal wine making style, and of course, we will taste and savour their delicate wines.
Before returning to Barcelona we can’t miss contemplating the beauty of the blue Mediterranean sea, since we will be so close to the famous Costa Brava! So we will stop in one of our favourite villages by the sea for a coffee break before returning home.
